Headway, the UK-wide charity that works to improve life after brain injury, had their Annual Headway Awards Luncheon at The Dorchester Hotel in London last Friday.
Members of Blaser Mills were grateful to have attended the Luncheon where personal injury survivors, carers and volunteers and campaigners were recognised for their incredible accomplishments.
There were four categories this year, including Carer of the Year, Alex Richardson Achiever of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, and Stephen McAleese Outstanding Achievement Award. Out of all the many nominees from across the UK, Headway had to select only 12 finalists who had demonstrated admirable determination to prove that there can be life after brain injury.
Amongst those finalists was Pamela Bell, who was one of just three people from across the UK in the running for the title of Volunteer of the Year. We were fortunate enough to have been on the same table as Pamela, and were able to watch her win the Volunteer of the Year Award, which was presented by double Olympic gold medallist James Cracknell.
Pamela is a drama therapist from Belfast who has been recognised as inspirational by Headway members across Northern Ireland who have benefitted from her drama therapy sessions. Headway member and stroke survivor, Peter McDaid, put Pamela forward for the award, stating that “her sessions are invaluable to our groups in terms of building self-esteem and she engages exceptionally well with those diagnosed with a brain injury, their families and carers. She always arrives early with a smile and a positive attitude that inspires confidence and improves the wellbeing of us all.”
Congratulations to Headway on their superb Luncheon, and a huge well done to Pamela on her well-deserved award.
