Trainee Solicitors
Do we take Trainee Solicitors?
We normally require up to four Trainee Solicitors in any one year and we prefer to tailor the training to individual needs rather than operate a formal, rigid, training structure. Consequently we give our trainees responsibility as soon as they are ready - but always under a partner's supervision. Advice and help are always on hand and there are many opportunities to sit-in with experienced solicitors to observe and discuss their more interesting cases.
What do we pay?
The exact amount will depend on our pay scales in force on your starting date but take into account the Law Society's recommended minimum salary. Trainee Solicitors get a salary increase as they commence their second year as we realise that, while money is not everything, we must be alert to our trainees' needs and aspirations.
Where would you work?
You will start work at a nominated office but you may be moved to other offices from time to time depending on your training needs and the firm's own requirements. Such moves will only take place after consultation with the Training Partner.
Qualifications?
You will have completed the Legal Practice Course before you start your two year training. During the course of your training we will arrange for you to complete the Professional Skills Course.
What if you fail the LPC?
We have no hard and fast rule - each case is treated on its merits and the Training Partner takes the final decision.
Do we take mature students?
Yes we do. It is true that the majority of our trainees are in their early 20's but we are always prepared to make an exception for the right person.
Do we sponsor students?
It is not the policy of this firm to offer such inducements.
Do we run vacation schemes?
We do not run formal systems for work experience or vacation schemes but such work is occasionally possible and will always be offered, in the first instance, to those we have selected to start training 'next year'.
How do you apply?
Write in the first instance to our Practice Manager, Mr C G Donovan at: Blaser Mills, Park House, 31 London Road, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, HP11 1BZ. Please enclose your CV and a short letter to explain why you qualify for consideration. Make sure that your CV tells the full story and that you explain any significant gaps in the continuity of your narrative.
Applications will then be compared and a short list drawn up for interview. If all goes well a second interview with one or two other partners may be required. Assuming that we like you and you like us, you may then be offered a place as a Trainee Solicitor. The process is time consuming but we take great care to ensure that we select the right people who will fit into our organisation and live up to our professional standards and, therefore, we expect co-operation and patience from those applicants who seriously wish to join our firm.
When to apply?
We consider applications for training in the March/April of the year preceding the training year commencement e.g. March/April 2009 for September 2010. Please do not apply earlier, it will not be accepted.
