According to a poll of 500 business owners and directors conducted by asset-based lender Venture Finance, one in ten small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) is actively considering acquiring a competing business.
A quarter of those SMEs planning acquisitions aim to complete a transaction in the next six months, with 29% planning to do so within a year.
Moreover, more than a quarter of businesses confirmed that they already have the resources in place to acquire a competitor’s business, estimating that they are each sitting on an average of £190,000 in available funds.
The research also finds, however, that over three-quarters quarters of SMEs have never acquired a company before and a third of SMEs admit that they would not know how to go about an acquisition or merger .
It is important, therefore, that any business considering an acquistion or a business sale talks to their professional advisers at an early stage. For further advice please contact us at email@example.com
