Research says smaller employers struggle to cope

According to a survey carried out by the British Chambers of Commerce, the UK’s smallest firms are finding it difficult to cope with the constantly changing demands of employment law.

The poll of 3,400 businesses across the UK has prompted the BCC to call for a three year moratorium on new legislation, saying that otherwise “it will take longer to get out of recession and companies will be loathe to take on more employees.”

A quarter of respondents were not planning to replace employees who leave, and the majority have entered into flexible work schemes, agreeing 84% of requests from employees.
