David Winnie, head of sports law, has been appointed by the Football Association’s [FA’s] Judicial Panel to sit as a Chair Panel Member for the General Board of Appeal.

Established by the FA Council, the FA Judicial Panel is made up of a pool of individuals selected to hear cases or appeals in connection with disciplinary and other regulatory processes of the FA, such as anti-doping and integrity amongst others.

The Judicial Panel members are chosen by the FA based on their relevant experience in dealing with sport regulatory issues and each member plays a key role in upholding the integrity of football in England.

David Winnie is an experienced sports lawyer, having represented clubs, players, intermediaries and other stakeholders in football before FA Rule K Arbitration, FIFA’s Dispute Resolution Chambers [Football Tribunal] and the Court of Arbitration for Sport [CAS] in Lausanne. Prior to becoming a solicitor, he was a professional football player for 17 years.

David is also a member of the Scottish Football Association’s [SFA] Judicial Panel and regularly hears cases involving high profile players and clubs.

Speaking about his appointment, David said: “I am absolutely delighted by this appointment and it’s a real honour to be invited to sit as a Chair Panel Member.

“I’m fortunate to have been appointed to sit on both the FA and SFA’s Judicial Panels and I hope to use my legal expertise and experience as a professional football player to advise on cases and appeals before the FA”.
